The city of Bartlett, originally named Union Depot and Green Bottom, began as a way station for a stagecoach route that traveled from Nashville and headed west. The railroad replaced the stagecoach run in 1830 and the station became a train depot. The railroad helped the farming community greatly as farmers were able to moved produce and merchandise to other parts of the state. The community was incorporated in 1866 and named Bartlett in honor of Major Gabriel M. Bartlett, a farmer whose home and farm were located where Bartlett Station Plaza
