History

The city of Bartlett, originally named Union Depot and Green Bottom, began as a way station for a stagecoach route that traveled from Nashville and headed west. The railroad replaced the stagecoach run in 1830 and the station became a train depot. The railroad helped the farming community greatly as farmers were able to moved produce and merchandise to other parts of the state. The community was incorporated in 1866 and named Bartlett in honor of Major Gabriel M. Bartlett, a farmer whose home and farm were located where Bartlett Station Plaza now stands.

Parks and Recreation

The city of Bartlett operates and maintains 30 parks and recreational facilities. The parks include playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields and courts, concessions buildings and restrooms and bicycling, running and walking trails. Facilities include indoor exercise studio, gymnasium with two basketball courts, racquetball, multi-purpose rooms and childcare. The city also provides a variety of programs and sports leagues for residents of all ages.

Education

Public school education is provided through the Bartlett City School District and provides educational opportunities for students from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. The district operates six elementary, three middle and two high schools. The school district is rated highly by students, parents, teachers and other educational professionals.

There are also two private schools in the city offering an alternative to public school education for children in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 8.
